This year I participated in the “Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap.” It’s a great project that involves making postcards of your “art” and the exchanging them with others. As the founder Kat’s post card said it provided “a boost of happiness and joy!” We all can use more of that.
As a part of this project, I received six postcards from artists around the world.
Here are some specific things I gained from this experience:
- While I don’t think of myself as an “artist,” this project was very approachable and helped me to think about art in different ways.
- Last year, I started another postcard project that has been a lot of fun. This year, I resolved to find more writing/creativity projects like this. This one was a success for me. (If anyone has suggestions for other projects like this, post a comment.)
- I found a service for printing cards called MOO, which is very cost effective for single prints. I’ve used this service now for other things and will continue to do so. (I’ve even started selling postcards at our local farmers market.)
- My postcards focused on Food as Art. As some of you may know, I’m obsessed with food and thinking about food as art was a new approach for me, a new step in my “creative journey” if you will. (I’m still thinking about ways I can merge my love for food with something that supports me. This project encouraged me to think more broadly about this.)
And of course, I now have some new postcards to send to other family and friends.
